THE ROLE OF ETHICAL LEADERSHIP IN ENHANCING ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

This study investigates the role of ethical leadership in promoting accountability and transparency in educational institutions. Using a mixed-methods research design, data were collected from administrators, academic and non-academic staff, and students across various public and private institutions. Quantitative analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between ethical leadership and accountability practices (r = 0.67), as well as a significant predictive influence of ethical leadership on transparency (β = 0.61). The multiple regression results confirmed the hypothesis that ethical leadership significantly contributes to both accountability and transparency (R² = 0.41). Qualitative findings further highlighted contextual challenges, including weak ethical frameworks, lack of leadership training, and systemic barriers. The study concludes that ethical leadership is a critical driver of good governance and institutional integrity. It recommends the implementation of ethical leadership training, enforcement of institutional codes of conduct, and the establishment of clear accountability and transparency systems. These measures are essential for fostering trust, performance, and sustainability within educational institutions.
